Gandhi - 1982

Today I saw the multi-award winning movie ‘Gandhi’ directed by Richard Attenborough. It is an inspirational movie, and it has encouraged me to read more about Mahatma. I was a strict supporter of Nathu ram godse before watching this movie, but now I am more inclined to find out the truth. We could argue endlessly about his role in Indian independence struggle, but one thing is sure, he was a charismatic leader. He helped Indian freedom struggle to spread at root level in small villages. People really listened to his word that’s why he was able to stop violence after non-corporation movement and during partition riots.

Positive things which one could learn from his life are:

1) Give time to find your principles in life, and once found, stick to them whatever the situation may be.

2) He was a stubborn person but some times he changed his decisions/nature for the benefit of people.

3) Do not wait for something big. Just start investing your time in small things and big things would come automatically.

4) We all are equal. I am not criticizing Indian cast system, but I think now is the time that we should re-look into this. Indian cast system was fine for the social structure around 1000 year before, but now entire lifestyle of people are changed. We should adapt to new things and remove the ones which are holding us back.

5) Don’t waste even a single second of your life. Although, Mahatma was epicentre of Indian freedom struggle in his time, but even then he utilized his free time by knitting his own clothes.

6) We all are sons/daughters of same god, so give respect to every living entity despite of its cast, creed or colour.

I would again touch Mahatma’s topic after reading his biography.
